Doris and Eric, I am deeply saddened to learn of Phil's passing. So many of our lives were touched by his warmth, kindheartedness, humor, and passion for life and all things Swedish. Phil was very outgoing and genuinely caring and interested in others. As my dad, Harley Almquist, was oft to say, "He'd give you the shirt off his back" and that was so true of Phil.
I first met Phil through DeMolay and Rainbow Girls when we were teenagers. When Phil was Master Councilor of Ousamequin Chapter of DeMolay in Brockton and I was Worthy Advisor of the Order of Rainbow Girls, Brockton Assembly #20, we put on a Minstrel Show in the late 50s featuring the songs of the musical "Oklahoma". Phil's and my duet was "I can do anything better than you", followed by "No, you can't". Comedic Phil made it a hit! He put his whole heart and soul into that performance as he did in everything he did in life. We shared our Swedish roots proudly and our many visits with the relatives. Phil loved my mother, Enie Almquist, and he would visit for "kaffe och dopp", share stories of Sweden, and purchase at cost Swedish Dala horses, etc.
We all have our "Phil" stories and we smile when we remember them. Phil was a blessing and always brought joy and laughter into our lives. He lives on in our hearts. "SOV I RO", Phil.

I met Phil through a former girlfriend who was involved in Rainbow activities. We became good friends, but as often happens, school and careers move you apart.
He was always a gentleman. I knew he would accomplish a great deal and have a positive influence on many people. I'm saddened by his loss, and offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends. God bless.

The entire Sandler Family is very sorry to hear of Philip's passing. We all greatly admired and respected Phil as a truly wonderful person. I had the wonderful opportunity to work under Phil's direction and guidance. He was an outstanding vocational education administrator, role-model, and true leader, who was always sincere and passionate about vocational technical education. Phil always made decisions based on the students' best interest.
He will be greatly missed, and never forgotten!
