Wayne Boutilier Obituary

Wayne Douglas Boutilier, 74, passed away peacefully.on January 23rd at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham after a hard fought four year battle with cancer.

Son of the late Arthur and Marjorie (Corbett) Boutilier, Wayne grew up in Stoughton and graduated from Stoughton High School before serving in the US Army National Guard for 6 years. He lived in Whitman for 29 years before moving to Stone Meadow 55+ Community in Bridgewater.

He was employed by ADT Security Systems for 36 years as an Alarm Technician until he retired in 2004.

Wayne was a partner and loving husband to Lois (Engebretson) Boutilier since 1979. He also leaves his sister, Lissa, and her husband, Kevin Flaherty, nephew Andrew Flaherty, niece Shayla Flaherty, all of Brewster, brother-in-law Bob Engebretson of Bridgewater, mother-in-law, Miriam Engebretson of Taunton and many cousins and aunts.

Wayne will be remembered for his signature handlebar mustache and his way of touching many lives with his quiet, kind, and respectful manner. Another part of his legacy will be his extensive hat collection which brought out his fun side. He was known as “The Hat Man" wherever he went. He always said "If I can make at least one person smile, I have accomplished my goal". To be sure, there were many, many smiling reactions.

Wayne enjoyed celebrating family occasions, listening to classic country music, watching classic auto racing, and experiencing the great outdoors year round. He and Lois led a full and wonderful life together enjoying their friends while camping, snowmobiling, and vacationing in Aruba (with hats for all occasions and locations!) He was always lending a hand to help others and had a knack for puttering and persevering with any fix-it project. He was a dedicated worker “behind the scenes” in the Massachusetts Beach Buggy Association and the Stone Meadow Residents' Association.

According to Wayne's wishes, end of life remembrance will be private with a celebration of life in the future.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute PO Box 849168 Boston, MA 02284 or NVNA&Hospice Charitable Fund 120 Longwater Dr. Norwell, MA 02061
