Walter Morton Gilday a long time resident of Stoughton passed away in Milton on Tuesday August 8, 2023. He was 97 years old and the beloved husband of over 62 years to the late Mary Frances (Archambault) Gilday. He is survived by his 2 loving children, Janet Waldmann and husband Richard of Milton, Christopher Gilday of Stoughton. his 2 grandchildren, Clarissa Waldmann and Jonathan Waldmann both of Milton.
Mr. Gilday was born on May 28, 1926 in Brockton, Massachusetts. He was a son to the late Walter Henry Gilday and Marion Goodrich Gilday. Walter was raised in Brockton, Massachusetts. He attended and graduated from Thayer Academy in 1945 and attained his Master’s Degree from the Calvin Coolidge College.
Mr. Gilday was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Insurance Division for 30 years, retiring in 1992. Walter spent his most recent years at the Hancock Park Skilled Nursing Facility in Quincy where he was known for his mastery of trivia. He also enjoyed bingo and visits from The Daughters of Nazareth. Walter also enjoyed Irish and Scottish music and loved attending Irish festivals and photography.
Visiting hours with the Gilday family will be held on Monday August 21, 2023 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. A funeral mass of Christian Burial in Walter’s honor will be held on Tuesday August 22, 2023 at 11 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church, 560 Page Street, N. Stoughton. The Pastor Fr. Carlos D. Suarez officiating. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. Interment will follow in the family lot at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. The Gilday family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the entire staff at The Hancock Park Skilled Nursing Facility in Quincy for their recent years of comfort and care of Walter.
