Thomas J. O'Loughlin, Jr. (LT. MSP Ret.) of Mashpee and Canton, MA passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022, due to complications from a stroke. He was 80 years old. He was born November 14, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Catherine (Cullinane) and Thomas J. O'Loughlin both of Boston, MA. Tom graduated from Boston College High School and proudly joined the United States Air-Force. He was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, NY where he worked as an aircraft mechanic (SAC). Tom was honorably discharged in August of 1966. He later attended and graduated from Boston State College in 1974.
Upon returning to civilian life Tom followed in his father's footsteps and entered law enforcement. Tom began his distinguished 30-year career in law enforcement with the MDC and retired from the Massachusetts State Police, May of 1998. Tom joined the Metropolitan Police as an officer in 1968. He served as a Lieutenant and was assigned to the motorcycle unit for the MDC and for the Massachusetts State Police as well. After retirement Tom work for the United States Department of State, Dignitary Protection Services.
Tom had a very interesting and rewarding career as a law enforcement officer. He met many dignitaries that came to Boston during his career. Tom worked closely with Dignitary Protection Services in Washington, DC. He also was the first motorcycle instructor in the Commonwealth of MA.
Tom was a 4 degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic Men's Organization. He enjoyed the many friends that he made within the organization and held the office of financial secretary until he lost his eyesight. He also was a member and former secretary of the Blue Knights MA 1 Motorcycle Club.
Tom leaves behind his loving wife, Donna of 58 years. Tom was introduced to Donna by his father. He was the loving father of his sons, Thomas J. O'Loughlin, III of Madeira Beach, Florida & Omaha, Nebraska and proud grandfather of Jack, Grace & Sam of Omaha, Nebraska and Mark E. O'Loughlin, of Pompano Beach, Florida and proud grandfather of Kylie, Owen and Jordan of Pompano Beach, FL. He is also survived by his many cherished nieces and nephews.
Tom's funeral mass will be held on Saturday December 3, 2022, at 11 a.m. from Christ the King Church, 5 Job's Fishing Road, Mashpee, MA. NOTE: A VISITATION PERIOD WITH THE FAMILY WILL BE HELD PRIOR TO THE FUNERAL MASS FROM 10 A.M. - 10:45 A.M. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. PLEASE OMIT FLOWERS. Cremation will follow and Mr. O'Loughlin's interment with United States Air Force Military Honors will be held at a later date and time to be announced at the Massachusetts Veteran's National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
