Rudolph Medeiros Obituary

Rudolph “Rudy” Medeiros, a United States Army Veteran and longtime resident of Stoughton passed away at his home on Tuesday May 17, 2022.  He was 85 years old and the beloved husband of over 65 years to Sandra M. (McGuigan) Medeiros.  Rudy was the loving father to Michael Medeiros and his wife Regina of Lakeville, MA, Dennis Medeiros and his wife Donna of Stoughton, MA, Robert Medeiros of Augusta, GA, Kevin Medeiros and his wife Sheila of Kingston, MA, Diane Medeiros and her husband Jay Warren of Stoughton, MA and Rick Devitt and his wife Christi of Apple Valley, CA.  He was also the cherished grandfather to Rachel Medeiros, the late Patrick Medeiros, Brianna (Medeiros) Aldebeh, Erycha Medeiros, Kacey Medeiros, Chelsea Medeiros, Kayla Medeiros, Danica Medeiros, and Jobi Medeiros.  Other survivors include his great-granddaughter Adalyn Aldabeh, his godchildren Kimberly Dyl, Marcus Dyl and Eric Dyl and his brother Duarte Medeiros and wife Shirley of Virginia. He was pre-deceased by his brother Edmund Medeiros and his sister-in-law Paula Medeiros. 

Born on August 27, 1936, in Fall River, Massachusetts Rudy was a son to the late Manuel Medeiros and Gilda (Cordeiro) Medeiros. He was employed by the United States Army and the Massachusetts Army National Guard for over 43 years initially as a member of the Nike Hercules missile defense system and was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Later he joined the 1058th MAARNG Transportation Co., became Transportation Chief and served overseas with his unit in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.  His military accomplishments included the Bronze Star, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Lapel Button, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, 3rd Award and the Overseas Bar.  He was also the 2020 O’Donnell Middle School “Veteran of The Year.” Rudy was the Past Grand Chancellor of The Knights of Pythias Grand Lodge, the former Quartermaster of the Michael Romanuk VFW Post #1645 in Stoughton, the former Quartermaster of the Amvets Post #77 in Stoughton, current President of the Norfolk County Farm Bureau, a Boy Scouts of America Scoutmaster of Troop #101 in Stoughton, where he was awarded the Wood Badge and Silver Beaver Award, former Building Committee member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton and was also the former secretary of the New England Association of Resource Conservation and Development.  Rudy’s love and dedication to his family, community and country was unwavering and he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday May 22, 2022, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the MICHAEL ROMANUK VFW POST # 1645, 837 WASHINGTON STREET, RT. 138, STOUGHTON. All are welcome to attend. NOTE: There will be a celebration of Rudy’s life in the VFW function hall immediately following the conclusion of the visiting hours. All are also welcomed to attend. Rudy will be laid to rest with United States Army Military Funeral Honors on Tuesday May 24, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veteran’s National Cemetery in Bourne, MA (NOTE: FUNERAL PROCESSION WILL BE FORMING AT THE SHEEHAN, LOWE & POWERS FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 115 MONK STREET, STOUGHTON ON TUESDAY MORNING AT 10:45 A.M. AND WILL BE DEPARTING FOR THE CEMETERY PROMPTLY AT 11:15 A.M.) In lieu of flowers and due to floral restrictions at the cemetery, donations in Rudy’s memory can be made to the Norfolk County Farm Bureau, c/o Mr. Edward Little, 346 North Main Street, Sharon, MA 02067.
