Maria C Melo was born on July 13, 1935. She and her late husband Dinis emigrated to the United States on December 13,1974, where their family settled in Stoughton, Ma. She worked as a machine operator at Corcoran Shoe Company for several years before working for Magnetrop, until she retired in 1997. Maria was a devoted Catholic and was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. She was a former member of St. John’s Filarmonica Club, Club Luis de Camoes, and a member of the Our Lady of Fatima Feast, where she prepared her well known favas and polvo for the fiesta for many years. Maria enjoyed going to the beach, where she could be found digging for clams. She also enjoyed apple picking, sewing, gardening, cooking but most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Maria is survived by her loving children Maria Dias, Dennis Melo and his wife Maria, Victor Melo, Eduina (Melo) Araujo and her husband Roy all of Stoughton, Ma., Noemia Lavin and her husband James and Rosa (Melo) Holsinger of Oxford, Ma., Belmira Melo and her partner Irving Rose of Brattleboro, Vt., Mariano Melo and his wife Linda of Brockton, Ma., Joe Melo and his wife Tara of Whitinsville, Ma., Elizabeth (Melo) Pereira and her husband Charles of Land O Lakes, Fl., and her sister Belmira Andrade of North Port, Fl. She is also survived by 34 grandchildren, 29 great-grand children, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased in death by her children John Melo of Brockton, Ma., Fransisco and Leonor of Sete Cidades, Sao Miguel, Acores., her brother Manuel C Oliveira of Stoughton, Ma., and her nephew Carlos (Chuck) Oliveira of Stoughton, Ma.
Her funeral mass will be held on Wednesday November 16, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton Street,(Rt.27) Stoughton. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral mass from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. in the SHEEHAN, LOWE & POWERS FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
