Obituary

Michael Frank Sammarco, 87, a long-time resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton on December 28, 2025 after a period of declining health. He was the devoted husband of Rosemary (Messina) Sammarco for 64 loving years. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Carmelo and Mary (Dipietro) Sammarco and was raised in East Boston. He was predeceased by his brother Vito Sammarco and his wife Angela. He was a graduate of English High School class of 1957, briefly attended Suffolk University, and served as a reservist in the Air Force National Guard. Mike resided in Stoughton for almost 60 years.  He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 40 years, always commenting " I had the best job in the world!".

His greatest joy was spending time with his family. In addition to his wife Rosemary, Mike is survived by his children Michael V. Sammarco and his wife Mary Easter of Upton, Nancy (Sammarco) Bouffard and her husband Paul of Stoughton, Anthony P. Sammarco and his wife Kristin (Sheehan) of Stoughton. He was also the proud "Grampy" to Anthony Vito  and Valia Sammarco, Gregory Bouffard and his wife Michelle, Alex Bouffard, Brianna (Bouffard) Guiomar and her wife Brittney.  Mike’s pride and joy were his great-grandchildren Benjamin and Luca Bouffard. He also leaves behind his niece Sandra Sammarco of North Falmouth and nephew David Sammarco of Arlington

Mike's philosophy in life was to always help others. This was evident in his dedication and service to the town of Stoughton, especially in running organized sports. He devoted endless hours coaching and raising money to provide kids with a means of paying for their sports programs. He also provided leadership to many youth organizations. Mike served as president of the Stoughton Boosters Club to support high school sports, commissioner of the Stoughton Babe Ruth Baseball League, and president of the Stoughton Kicker Club which he founded to support high school soccer for boys and girls. Mike believed and would say “most of the kids are good kids as long as you treat them fairly and with kindness."  He also was a Stoughton town meeting member and served on the town planning board for many years.

Mike's other passions were food and his Italian heritage. He was deeply involved with the Stoughton Sons of Italy, serving as president for many years. He loved planning, shopping and cooking for Friday Night Dinners at the club. The kitchen was always filled with the aroma of great food and the joy and laughter of many friends.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Stoughton Visiting Nurse Association, and Steven Tyer and the team at Copley at Stoughton Nursing and Rehab Center for their kindness and compassionate care.
