Loreen D. Hewitt

Loreen DeBenedictis Hewitt passed away at age 65 on May 6th 2018 following a long illness.  She was the wife of Malcolm R. Hewitt of Sharon Ma and the mother to Shelby Hewitt of Boston Ma.  Loreen and Malcolm spent 37 loving years together.  Loreen predeceased her father, Louis P. DeBenedictis, formerly of Gloucester. She was the daughter of Jenny Calandra of Somerville Ma and the step daughter of Joan DeBenedictis formerly of Gloucester.  Loreen was born in Boston, but lived many years of her life in Gloucester Ma and Sharon MA.   

Loreen is survived by her sister Rita Zimmerer and brother- in-law Peter Zimmerer of Long Grove Illinois and their daughter Janel Zimmerer of Chicago Illinois, brother Louis Debenedictis of Boston, sister Jennine Castleton and brother- in -law Jerry Castleton of Laguna Beach California, sister Donna DeBenedictis and her daughter Julianna Francis of Danvers Ma.  Loreen leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and family members. 

During her younger years, Loreen attended Matignon High School and later attended Boston University. Loreen was employed by Putnam Investments for several years and eventually worked tirelessly on fundraising at GBH channel 2 for over fifteen years.

Loreen was an avid reader, loved history and had a passion for all things Italian.  She found peace by the ocean and especially enjoyed long summer days in Gloucester, where she spent many years of her life. Loreen will be remembered for her wonderful introspection, incredible insight, and fierce love for others, her “DeBenedictis” determination, and for her unmistakable trademark laugh. 

A  Memorial Service will be held on June 2 at 11:30a.m.  At the United Methodist Church of Gloucester, 436 Washington St. Gloucester MA.  A celebration of Loreen’s life is being held directly following the service at The Italiano Restaurant, 64 Main St. Gloucester Ma.
