Grace Dalton Obituary

Grace A. (McGonagle) Dalton, 84, passed away at her Stoughton home surrounded by her loving family on Friday May 18th, 2018. She was the beloved wife of James F. Dalton to whom she was married to for 55 years. She was a stoughton resident for 54 years. Grace was a woman before her time, a woman who would place her wing over anyone who needed love in their life. Grace was a gentle, elegant and caring woman but was also filled with spunk. She was the voice of reason and the beautiful “madame butterfly” matriarch of the family. Without a doubt, Grace always greeted everyone at the door with a big hug and smile and would say, “Saint Raphael go with you” when it was time for goodbye. She strongly believed that you should always stand up for what you believe in. She was a devout catholic and lector, and communicant of St. James Parish of Stoughton for many years. Grace was a driven and hardworking woman who spearheaded the Lead Paint Poisoning Bill in Massachusetts to protect children. She was proud to be on the Board of Health of Stoughton. Grace was also on the board of directors for Old Colony Hospice. She was also a deputy sheriff of Norfolk County.

Grace’s selfless daughter, Elizabeth Dalton, RN, dedicated her life to take loving care of her mother to give her the best quality of life. Grace’s daughter, Mary Grace Dalton, is her earth angel and her ray of sunshine. Elizabeth, Grace and Mary Grace were the golden girls and best of friends.

Born July 10th, 1933 in Malden, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late James J. McGonagle and the late Margaret (Kerrigan) McGonagle. She was the grandmother of the late Sean Michael Ewas.

Grace is survived by her loving, caring children; Rose Dalton and her husband David Cox, James F. Dalton Jr. and his wife Deirdre of Chelmsford, Elizabeth Dalton and her fiancé Simos Kampanellas of Stoughton, Margaret Mallory and her husband Kevin of Newton Highlands, Joseph M. Dalton III and his wife Carolyn of Easton, Mary Grace Dalton of Stoughton, Maureen Hancock and her husband John Hatfield of Bridgewater, Sarah Skinner and her husband JC, Patrice Denneno and her husband Peter (SFD) of Stoughton.

Grace is also survived by her loving sisters; Margaret Dolan of Tewksbury and Mary Rose Crowley of Newport Richie, FL, sister in law Hazel McGonagle of Haverhill, Theresa McGonagle of Alabama, Shirley McGonagle of Mississippi, her late brother Patrick McGonagle, James McGonagle, Joseph McGonagle and William McGonagle. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
