William R. “Bill” Murphy, a 30 year resident of Stoughton formerly of Randolph and Boston passed away after a prolonged illness on Wednesday March 2, 2016. He was 74 years old and the beloved husband of Marion R. (Haufler) Murphy and the loving father of Jeremiah J. Murphy III and Rita F. Murphy both of Stoughton. Other survivors include his aunt Catherine Pruslow of Braintree.
Born October 24, 1941 in Boston, Massachusetts he was the only child born to the late Jeremiah J. Murphy Jr. and Rita (Richards) Murphy. He attended Boston Public Schools and was a graduate of the former Woodrow Wilson High School in Boston. Bill was employed as a bus driver for several years by the former Unda’s Bus Service in Stoughton. He was a communicant and attended St. James Church in Stoughton. He was a current member and past Grand Knight of the Vera Cruz Council #129 K of C in Randolph, past Faithful Navigator of the Cardinal O’Connell Assembly K of C in Brockton, a former Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop # 20 in Brockton and a member of the Holy Name Society at the former St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Abington. His hobbies included Rollerskating and watching Star Trek and John Wayne movies. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday March 7, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 N. Main Street, Rt. 28 in Randolph. His funeral will be held on Tuesday March 8, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 N. Main Street, Randolph followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, 560 Page Street, Stoughton. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Vera Cruz Council # 129 K of C, 25 Teed Drive, Randolph, MA 02368 in Bill’s memory, would be appreciated.
