Robert L. “Bob” Overstreet Sr. a United States Navy veteran of WWII and long time resident of Stoughton,MA passed away peacefully in Plymouth on Wednesday July 13, 2016. He was 87 years old and the beloved husband of over 60 years to the late Joan P. (McShea) Overstreet. He is survived by his loving children, Robert L. Overstreet Jr. and his wife Michelle of Plymouth, Ruth Schlieff and her husband Vaughn of Middleboro, Jane Emmons and her husband Andrew of Bourne, Mary Chetwynd and her husband Phillip of Plymouth, Kevin Overstreet and his wife Ann Marie also of Plymouth and James Overstreet of Stoughton. Other survivors include his 26 cherished grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren. Bob was also a father to the late William Overstreet, Nancy J. Sproul, Glenn T. Overstreet and a brother to the late Jean Fredette and Ruth Barber.

Born October 12, 1928 in Dedham, Massachusetts, Bob was the only son born to the late Willis and Edna (Cadigan) Overstreet. He attended Dedham Public Schools and was a 1946 graduate of Dedham High School. He was employed by the Boston Edison Co. as a utility supervisor for over 46 years. Bob proudly served his country with the United States Navy while overseas aboard the USS Bergall during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1948. He was also a devoted member and communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Stoughton. Bob was a long time dedicated Stoughton Little League and Stoughton Babe Ruth League Baseball Coach. He was a 25 year member of the VFW in Dedham. He also enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Sharon Country Club. Bob will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours which will be held on Sunday July 17, 2016 from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M. in the Sheehan. Lowe & Powers Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. His funeral will be held on Monday July 18, 2016 at 9:30 A.M. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of his soul at 11:00 A.M. in St. James Catholic Church, 560 Page Street, Stoughton. The Pastor Rev. Joseph Mazzone, officiating. Burial with U.S. Navy Military Funeral Honors will follow at 1:30 P.M. in the Massachusetts Veteran’s National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory can be made to Stoughton Youth Baseball, 98 Elm Street, Stoughton,MA 02072.
